Rolling Clouds - The Morning Glory of Australia
The Morning Glory of the Gulf of Carpentaria in Northern Australia is a magnet for growing numbers of soaring pilots and scientists. Unique in all the world and shrouded in mystery, the Morning Glory arrives regularly each spring. A Morning Glory cloud is a roll cloud that can be up to 620 miles (1000 kilometers) long, 0.5 to 1.2 miles (1 to 2 kilometers) high, and can move at speeds up to 37 mph (60 km/h).
